To wrap up 2018, Microsoft is offering nearly $60 worth of free Xbox One and Xbox 360 games in their December Games With Gold giveaways. This month players will be able to get their hands on a pair of Xbox One titles, an Xbox 360 classic, and an Xbox original title.
Race The Sun.
First, a holdover from the November Games with Gold giveaway is Race the Sun, an Xbox One title that is available to download for free until December 15. Race the Sun is an endless racing game where players pilot a solar-powered spacecraft trying to score as many points before they crash or the sun sets.
During the course of a race, players will have to stay in the sunlight to keep moving while avoiding objects like laser beams, and stationary objects. If you get out of the sunlight, if the sun sets, or if the spaceship crashes the race is over. Players will also have missions to complete for each race in order to gain experience points.
Race the Sun has 1,000 Gamerscore, and a price point of $9.99.
Qube 2.
From December 1-30, you can download the Xbox One title Qube 2.
Qube 2 is a Portal-esq puzzle game where you play as Amelia Cross, an archaeologist who has awoken on an alien planet. You must solve a series of riddles and puzzles to find out more about the mysterious landscape and to get back home.
Players navigate the world by moving different colored cubes to designated areas and interacting with power nodes in order to make it to the next room. Each color cube has a specific power linked to it, which limits what you can do with each block. As you progress through the story, the puzzles get more and more difficult while introducing additional mechanics to the game and increasing your abilities. It is up to you to figure out how to best use these to solve each new puzzle.
Qube 2 has a total of 1,000 Gamerscore and is originally priced at $24.99.
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna).
From December 16 through January 16, 2019 fans will be able to get their hands on Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) for free.
This unique 1- or 2-player puzzle-platformer adventure game that puts players in the shoes of a Iñupiat girl Nuna with her Arctic fox. You must venture out into the wild to find the source of a powerful blizzard.
Players use the traditional side-scrolling mechanics to navigate the levels such as running, jumping, moving boxes around, and even a throwable item that you unlock throughout the course of the game.
What makes Never Alone truly unique is that it was built in partnership with the Alaska Native community and delves into the traditional lore of the Iñupiat people of the Arctic.
Throughout the Never Alone’s eight chapters, players must switch between controlling Nuna and her fox to complete each level. During each level, players will encounter traditional Alaska Native story characters while unlocking special Insights that share the wisdom, perspective and stories of the Iñupiat people.
Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) has a price of $14.99 and comes with 1,000 achievement points to unlock.
Dragon Age 2.
Microsoft is offering Dragon Age 2 for free between December 1-15.
The sequel to Bioware’s massively popular Dragon Age, Dragon Age 2. This action-adventure role-playing game puts players in the role of Hawke, a customizable human who can be a mage, rogue, or warrior. Throughout the course of the game, Hawke enters the city of Kirkwall and works his way up to eventually become its champion.
Players are tasked with exploring the vast world, making companions, collecting loot to upgrade their character, and engaging in battles either solo of with your party all to earn experience points to level up and gain new skills and talents.
Your dialogue with characters and decisions you make will influence the game influencing your companions to become friends or rivals as well as other aspects within the world.
Dragon Age 2 is a very deep game and worth the free download if you’ve never played it before or even if you want to jump back in and create a brand new character.
Dragon Age 2 has a price point of $19.99 and has 1,370 achievement points.
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.
The final game in December’s Games with Gold giveaway is the original Xbox title Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, which will be available to download for free from December 16-31.
Mercenaries (how it is commonly referred) is an open-world action-adventure shooter sandbox game, giving players the ability pick and choose which missions to undertake, when they want to do them, and players can even destroy all of the buildings in the game.
Players control one of three mercenaries working with (or against) five warring factions during a fictitious war in North Korea. Players can complete various contracts for the different factions to gain favour with them and earn some cash while trying to prevent total nuclear war.
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction costs $9.99 without the Games with Gold deal and does not have any achievements to unlock.
